We read in the Quraan: Surah Al-Maeda
When ye proclaim your call to prayer they take it (but) as mockery and sport; that is because they are a people without understanding. (58)
Nadaytum -You(pl) call ( I think?) is used in the original Arabic. What could it be alluding to other than the adhan? Yet there is no text in the Quran to teach us its wording (if it's verbal). I'd like to know what you think about this. It has puzzled me for a while now.

It is definitely 'when you call to prayer.' Apparently there were and are people who make jokes when believers tell others to pray or call them to prayer. this reminds me of many moderns and even some Quranists who think prayer is silly and is like a superstitious rite that means nothing and has no real merit.
