Hi, I thought I'd introduce myself. This seems a little forum indeed, but judging by what I've read then I think we will have much in common. I am an Orthodox Christian (hence my monkier Eastern Qibla - our qibla is to the east), and various studies caused me sometime ago to re-evaluate the Quran and the Arab/Islamic traditions. I did join another Islamic forum sometime ago, but gave up due to intolerance. I am not a Muslim, but am convinced that Muhammad was very special. I am convinced that there can be a closer understanding of (eastern) Christianity and (Quranist) Islam than previously thought or imagined. Best wishes, Richard

welcome,
I personally do not believe in qiblah as direction of prayer but rather as focal point, the Ka'bah in Mecca being a focal point for Muslims in our pilgrimage to it, which was initiated by Abraham (God bless him). Hopefully you will find this forum interesting and helpful

That's a good point. There is no place on earth or in heaven we should pray towards, but we are weak humans who need 'focal points'. (The 'east' is, of course, no place on earth or in heaven.) Since joining the little forum, I have found the free-minds forum. I might join that as well. Is anyone here a member of both forums( or 'fora' in Latin?!?)?

Just a question: why was this forum set up when the free-minds forum is widely used? Was there a 'falling out' or is it envisaged that this forum will have a different slant?

Easternqibla,
I used to be more active on free-minds. I have left that forum alone in favor of creating one here for more productive discussion. I felt that the lack of knowledge and blatant manipulation of Arabic in order to force "modern" and "acceptable" meanings was too much for me. Again, many people there form opinions without knowledge and there is a blatant disregard for understanding Classical Arabic, through the lexicons and the respectable sources. Many people THINK they see contradictions when they have not studied enough.
